I'm filling out my bits & bobs for it now. Looking at the 11:00 trip. Anyone else gonna be there? I'll have my DD Forum badge on just in case. Cheers, ~ Matloughe I will be on the 1100 train, sent off for my tickets this morning on the way to the bus stop to come to school. I have a badge (that some of you notised at Acton in March ) with my username on but it has The Transport Forum logo on it and not District Dave. May be going in the cab if one of my 'contacts' can get me a VIP pass ;D YAY! that will be a good one for YouTube- Kings Cross X-over in the cab of a 1938ts ;D

Just to confirm, do you need to be a Friend of the LTM to get a ticket or can anyone get one? I am seriously considering going on this one (either 11:00 or 14:00 whatever is available).

It was also mentioned at the Friends meeting that the open day was not going ahead, but the 38 run almost certainly was.

As the problem with the GG open day is apparently red tape, why not bring back the person organised the highly successful Morden Open Day/ Tube Centenary in 1990? I know that a very great deal of red tape had to be cut through for this event.
It would be a great shame not to mark the CCE&HR centenary. In my opinion, it would be a major PR boost for TfL, LU, Tubelines and the LT Museum, which by then will only be a couple of months from re-opening.

It seems a shame that it has to be stopped due to paperwork and beancounters - if it's been done before why not again now? Or is it PPP and the like getting in the way. Whilst I wasn't around for the 1990 centenary being only 1 at the time, I hear it was a very well run event - as David says, why don't they ask the person who organised that to do somethimg similar for Golders Green?

C'mon CSLR - nothing is beyond hope unless you yourself have to admit defeat! Can you not pull strings, remove fingers from orifices and generally try to set fire to the red tape.....??

C'mon CSLR - nothing is beyond hope unless you yourself have to admit defeat! Can you not pull strings, remove fingers from orifices and generally try to set fire to the red tape.....?? The red tape is not a problem, I still have a sharp pair of scissors. The problem is what type of decision led to the cancellation. As you say, nothing is beyond hope. Although it would be difficult to organise an event like this from scratch at this late stage, it is not impossible. There is also the advantage that some work may have been done recently and a lot of the groundwork was done in 1990. I have tried to consider all of the issues that might have stopped this event and can see nothing that would physically prevent it. Of all of the depots on the Northern Line, Golders Green was my first choice in 1990 but, because it was a CCE&H depot, I went for Morden at that time. I have looked at the public safety issues at GG. The site is a little different to Morden and not without its problems. In order to comply with present day H&S and other regulations/requirements, there are some issues that would have to be dealt with and numbers would have to be restricted, but that should not prevent the event from happening. Security was very tight at Morden - much more than you could see or would imagine. BTP were incredibly thorough and worked very hard to cover all eventualities. It is enough to say that an event at GG could be dealt with in a similar way. In 1990, PPP did not exist in the way that it does now, although there was a lot of private input into the system (contractors, construction companies, rolling stock manufacturers, etc). I made sure that they were all invited to participate in the events and they were keen to do so. Any event today should probably place even greater emphasis on the drawing together of partners. This approach would result in a top-notch event with tremendous PR benefits for everyone. If this has not been done, that might be where things have started to go wrong - and I say this without any knowledge of what has been done so far or why it has been cancelled. At the end of the day, I cannot do anything simply because I have not been asked. Although some of the middle management is still in place, the senior management has changed since 1990 and it is their call. It would be wrong of me to blunder in without invitation and interfere with something that someone else has been dealing with, particularly as I do not know all of the facts. However, if anyone there would like any help, they know my number

I have been told that there will be a staff and family event at Golders Green to celebrate the centenary but there will be no public admission. It would appear that, although the possibility was discussed, there never was any official approval for a public open day and that any announcements that were made were premature. The 1938ts runs are still scheduled to take place. While I am reluctant to express an opinion, I do feel that the companies involved have missed a massive public relations/press opportunity.

I have never attended an LU open day (wasn't into LU when the last one was held - was that in 1990)? If you can't celebrate publicly for a centenary, when can you celebrate Perhaps concerns over vandalism & security took a higher priority - understandable, but still frustrating

I am assuming the tickets will be issued on a first come first served basis, and not a lottery?

Oh I doubt that an opportunity will be missed. It's a near certainty that a reporter from the substandard will somehow manage to get in as "friend/family" of a LU staff member. That way it'll get reported warts and all. It'll be interesting to see what they say, regardless of how much is believed. And with no general public there to refute anything......oh well!
