Received today - at no (tax payers) expense my Northern Line calender and Northern Line diary.
A covering letter contains brief details of a Northern Line Centenary.
There will be a Golders Green Depot open day(weekend) plus the 38 will be out and about on the Northern end of the Northern Line.
I guess this will be the last time a 38 will ever be out again on the Northern Line, as ATO installation starts late 2007.
No exact date, but June was mentioned.
Keep your diaries clear, perhaps a forum meet should be arranged?

That is great news!
Great to see something is being done for the best line! [ducks to avoid large heavy object]
Lets hope the open weekend wont be just for staff, but will be a general celebration.

Yep, someone from the office went to a meeting about the Northern Line centenary a few months back, and there was active talk about having that train out doing a tour as part of the celebration. I don't know whether it will all fall through at the last minute, but my intuition is that something will happen soon.
The reason I caution is that there was supposed to be a Railtours trip travelling between Ruislip and Shoreditch, going the scenic route, before Shoreditch was shutdown in summer 2006 - but that all fell through at short notice. There was alot of concern about how that old train could cause unnecessary delays (and bad press!), if it broke down.

The letter implied that the open days and the 38 stock will be for public (& staff) enjoyment. Given the Northern Line management have gone 'public' so to speak, I'd guess the details must be fairly certain. Plus (for the staff) a goody bag and other fun things.

Oooooh, can't wait for that... Really look forward to sitting in the plush wood interiors again, crawling along between Brent and Golders. Must do a forum meet!

Nice to see that the safety case/certificates/willpower/etc for the 38 to go out to play are or will be sorted. As I've mentioned previously this is essential if the HLF are going to pay for the Q stock to be restored, so if it falls through there will be many unhappy people near the top of the LU and TFL food chain.

It would be great to see the lovely 38 stock out again!
Of course, as everyone knows, the real Northern Line celebrated it's centenary in 1990 ;D

Just remember to keep this thread alive so those of us who don't have access to the LUL intranet can book waaaaaaaaaay in advance! (And not end up scrambling for tickets a week before like everyone else when it's suddenly announced in the railway press).

If it is a short term heritage livery on one train they might get a derogation to allow it. It would be a lot of paperwork though I'd imagine.

No need to repaint a train into a different livery, simply use plain coloured vinyl in the same way that done when trains and buses are covered with advertising. ;D

RVAR and DDA still apply with advertising liveries, so AFAIK a derogation would still be required. rob - are you thinking of the Ficticious Liveries fotopic site?

no, they were like drawings but filled in with different colours. I think it was UndergrounD DaviD...
but anyway...
they could use vinyls like they did on other all over ad trains, that would be a good idea that could be implemented.

The letter did say "an open day at Golders Green Depot".
So I'd assume a Sunday in June, would be the date.
I'll post if I get any more info.

Said we were doing a great job already, how can one improve then?! It's a well known fact that you Jubilee Line boys & girls need to work harder We're getting ATO, Connect, strikes, perhaps a good service now & then this year on the Northern Line - plus our party BTW what fine pictures were chosen for the Jubilee Line calander? For reference the Northern Line one contained: Jan - Modern picture of the Tooting Broadway (External shot) Feb - Picture of a yellow shutter at Golders Green depot Mar - The murals at Oval Station Apr - People getting off a train at Golders Green May - A couple of RCI's at TCR Jun - A historic picture of a 1938 stock showing High Gate via CX Jul - Track at Morden Aug - CSA doing SATS duty @ Euston Sep - 95 stock at Golders Green depot Oct - Escalators at Angel Nov - "A Northern Line train" Dec - A historic picture of station staff removing snow from East FInchley.

The pictures are in date order! January: 96ts at Wembley Park [blurred cab, but the rest is in focus, indicating speed maybe? February: Close up of a T/op at work March: Control centre at Neasden, showing the signalling diagrams on the wall April:Shot of HRH Charlie in the cab of a 72ts at GPK on the new extension to CX. May : A twilight picture of the exterior of Southwark stn [nice picture] June: Shot from the bottom of Canary Wharf escalators, looking up [again, nice shot] July: An RCI smiling! [that picture will give me a major nightmare when I go to bed!] August: Close up of a 96ts on the W/B at NOG, showing the platform edge doors. September: An exterior shot of Willesden Green in 1935. October: A shot of an exit at Westminster [least favourite picture, has significance, and functionality, but is not very pretty. Dont get me started on what "Art" is!!!!!!!!!!] November: A night time shot at Wembley showing "A" stock and 96ts December: A picture of a passageway at London Bridge [again, rather boring, LOB could have produced a far better picture] My station was not shown!

Good news everyone.
While trying to get some info off a DMT friend of mine regarding the GG open day AND the 38 stock run, I find out that my mate is actually the DMT in charge of the 38 running.
He's given me some good info, which I've asked him to confirm I can post here AND he'll keep me (us) up to date.
Sorry for sounding secretive, but I want him to be OK with any info I post.
I should have some more info for you mid next week.

Excellent work Simon, I have to agree with Tubeboy about the Jubilee Line calendar - very disappointed that my station wasn't in it - never mind. Looking at all the swirly effects on the pics you probably wouldn't recognise it anyway.
As for the Northern Line events - rock on!!!!!!!!!!

The pictures are in date order! February: Close up of a T/op at work Have you noticed the sticker above the T/Ops head Tubeboy? Someone has scratched some of the writing away and one part now reads (strangely) 'After passing a signal at danger expect to find' and the other bit says Do pass semi automatic signals at anger without authority. Authorised persons are low in this driving cab' - you can probably guess what the stickers were meant to say. Makes the picture that bit more lifelike!!!!!
