Yes that's how it started. Then the powers that be agreed that it would be nice to get the platforms back up to a decent spec, and as some of the cost came under the 7-car project, they thought why not!

EDIT: Apparently, although I was never informed ( :, the Met ceased calling at Willesden Green from around 1230hrs yesterday!

The Bakerloo has something to do with the position of the UNDM to make shunting easier in Stonebridge Park - I can't remember exactly.

Oh It's far older than that on the Bakerloo Tom. It dates back to just after the war I think when the UNDM's came for the '38 stock. As there is no cab on the undm's they cannot be driven on a running line except in emergency. When uncoupling was in force on the B'loo it was done at QP or Stanmore as there was nowhere to stable the units at the Elephant. So the 3 car was put at the south end to aid the shunt to the shed/sidings at those northern locations. It is possible though that units may have been stabled in the northbound siding at E&C in the off peak.

However, that reason for the stock being the wrong way round ceased to exist after uncoupling finished. The answer to why it continued with 1972 stock is so that shunting in Stonebridge can be done using the middle DM rather than the UNDM.

The reason 72TS were turned before transferring to the Bakerloo was that prior to refurb they had 38TS shunting controls on the UNDM which were Westinghouse brake only and were notouriously unreliable and they didn't want shunters approaching buffer stops in an UNDM.Obviously now this doesn't apply but it would be too much hassle to turn the trains back.Q8,96TS is right way round,it's just that the 4 car is a "D" unit instead of an "A" as normal.

No reason not to now.

I must admit I was quite surprised, apart from a couple of incidents, that towerman's posts were on the whole reporting progress! I had expected lengthy reports of further incidents ending up with the cancellation of the project.

They're obviously getting the hang of this railway thing ;D

I note in 'On The Move' that new GM and acting GM (who's shortly off to run the Bakerloo) undertook simulations of the changeover in the great outdoors

Ah now there's a publication the company should be proud of. Full of positive information about station and managerial staff. Sometimes the odd article about train ops too. But seldom an article about Service Control. Bit like the recent series of The Tube. The word "biased" comes to mind, can't think why though.

The proper "PPP" as you put it would have meant an outdoor rehearsal was unneccessary.

Oh it started alright. Sunday afternoon saw very heavy blocking back from Stratford to Westminster and also from Stanmore to Wembley Park. Late running averaged 15-20 late. Just too many trains using both termini. Great planning that ;D

Bit like the plan that was circulated just before introduction, which warned drivers to be aware that due to the different timetable, some signals which may normally be clear may now be at danger. It's taken them how many timetables to work out this simple fact. Next they'll be getting rid of all the signals as they don't work as they should. Oh wait a minute....

I've just read in the always very interesting LURS Underground News (February), that one of the 7-car trains accidently ran in public service before the Christmas closure. Ooops!

That was a joint cock up between the driver and Neasden depot,incidentally,the last 7th car must be coming this week.The Schomas are booked to return to Ruislip on Thursday night.
