Have any tube stock ever played in-carriage music? The former District Line Sports Day train, conveying Staff from Upminster depot to Acton Works certainly did! disco, streamers, balloons, food ! Sounds like fun

I doubt the passengers would find the Central line too hot today No, but they're feeling the heat on Twitter because of the strike! There's no end of angry tweets about it.

Then they modernised it for the purple triain and it doesn't even look the same any more. For the what? Do you mean CrossRail? I do mean Crossrail, but some on Twitter call it the purple train. I'm in the habit of using it when tweeting

I miss the old tiling patterns at TCR, not least because it reminded me of the tube scene in American Werewolf in London. Then they modernised it for the purple train and it doesn't even look the same any more.

I bet those pigeons are/were cheeky fare dodgers? or do they have their tickets or Oyster cards under their wings? The university I go to also has a pigeon. Everyone feels sorry for him because he only has one foot and they're always giving food to him. He often flies in through the doors and has been known to fly around the main buildings. We spent a few days in Cork a couple of weeks ago & were pleased to see both pigeons & seagulls in Dublin Heuston & pigeons and terns at Cork Kent. Plus a one-footed seagull at Holyhead on the way home, who must've smelt the complementary cabin biscuits in my pocket-quite chuffed with with three custard creams. I believe the Tube pigeons usually go one stop only, rather than systematically cheat TfL. Mind you, maybe they've trained themselves to peck in and out rather than touch. How was Cork? I went there in March for an anime convention. I hope the seagull didn't eat all your biscuits! Feel free to PM me and tell more more about your Ireland trip. I'd love to know how you get on. I've seen videos of the tube pigeons and they seem to go one stop, maybe to give their wings a rest. How do they manage to peck in and out?

Very pleased to see that the 1989 Hammersmith & Acton Town stations both had one pleasing feature that remained in 2012/3. Plenty of pigeons & snack bars to feed them from.

It's great to see all the old stuff and what the stations used to look like. I'm pretty sure was on those original D-stock trains when I was a kid. We would have been going from Wimbledon to South Kensington (to go to the museums) but I don't really remember it.

Have they tried switching it off, waiting 30 seconds and then switching it back on again? I often have to do that with the TV, especially when my mother messes around with it. She's hopeless with tech and will press random buttons without knowing what they are It certainly works!

I was expecting something along the lines of... You are standing on a raised platform. To the east is a gate, guarded by a goblin. Has anyone ever made a text adventure based on the Underground? I found one called Moquette, which is a bit more like a game and has a story to it.

It looks good and I love the idea but so far there's not much of a 'game' to it. It needs more of a storyline, maybe something focusing on one or more of those stations being disused and a group of people exploring them and ghost hunting. Something like the old style text adventure games.

Those plans are very interesting and do I spot Aldwych station on the plans? Does that mean there was originally a plan to run the Victoria line through it or was that the plan for the original Jubilee/Fleet line extension?

I didn't know about it until late last nigh. I was watching ITV London News (I get it on satellite) and they mentioned the 50th anniversary and showed some old footage. There's also stuff about it on Twitter. I didn't know it was built by the Irish.

Apparently it would come out cheap as the DFS is having a sale... When are they not having a sale? It's a miracle that company stays in business with all the sales they have. I can't turn on the TV or open a newspaper without seeing an ad for one

I love those platforms. It's like a Victorian time capsule and I can just picture people dressed in the elaborate suits and dresses of the era standing and waiting for their trains. I'd love to go down there one day wearing a Victorian-style dress. I love how not a lot has changed apart from modern signage and some renovations here and there.

It's an April fool but I can see how easy it is for people to fall for it, especially those who aren't LU enthusiasts or have an extensive knowledge of the network like we do on here. I don't really understand why newspapers publish hoax stories. I bet many fall for them and actually believe they are genuine. I always avoid news sites on April 1st.

It's great that the new trains are going to be built. They're badly needed IMO. One thing - do you think they'll add platform level doors (like on the JLE) in the deep level stations at some point after these new trains are introduced? Would be good if they did. Given that they appear to have backpedalled on UTO, and the rather empty status of TfL's coffers, I don't think we'll see PEDs or any other sort of non-necessary expenditure. Ah I see. It's just that I remember watching the concept video about the new tube trains and they mentioned PEDs on it. Who knows though, maybe things could have improved for them financially by the time the new trains are ready to go. PEDs would be a good idea though. Anything to stop people jumping on the tracks.

I think it was a brilliant tribute and it shows that there is still some good left in this world, despite all the nonsense going on in it. He only stopped the train for half a minute and I'm sure the passengers understood why the train stopped when they saw the Grenfell vigil (unless they were tourists unfamiliar with the incident). For all I know there could have been a PA announcement. Some people are being really nasty about it on Twitter. There's always some 😡🙄

It would be a nice holiday home or it could be rented out. I'm sure plenty of trainspotters and railway enthusiasts would love to stay in it.

I wonder if they'll be able to fit it onto the Tube map? Or are they planning a new extension of the Northern line all the way from Morden to Buenos Aires? Well, if the Trams and the dangleway qualify, I'm sure TfL would find a way to shoehorn it in somewhere They might, but it'll make the tube map more confusing for people

Ali, thanks for your reply.
Maps showing the 1949 and 1965 proposals would be great. As an aside, the London Evening Standard has a web page about your map. I have commented on a few things there, although the comments are a bit of a mess as whilst some messages showed up immediately others took three days to appear, by which time slightly differently worded messages saying basically the same thing had been submitted. Their comments system does not include options to either edit or delete messages.
Simon
I'll definitely put the 1949/1965 maps on my list of future projects. I'm considering making a blog where I could put everything up, but I always get worried that no one will ever want to read it. Do you (or anyone) know where I can access the full text of the plans from 1949 or 1965 (or indeed any other fun ones that I could do)? A nice advantage of the 1946 plans was the text is freely available, in full online which helps a lot with understanding the details and the historical background. You should start a blog! Plenty of people would want to read it. All us tube enthusiasts would Just try and make people aware of it. Are you on Twitter by any chance? As for the 1949 or 1965 plans, I wouldn't know where you could easily find them online, but good luck with your search.

Thanks for this. I's great that you have older maps archived. Some might find it mundane but it could be valuable to future historians. This is what history is about in my opinion. It's not just about wars, battles or kings and queens (although these are important) but also about society and everyday life. I think LU history should be on the school curriculum.

Love this, it's very interesting to look and consider what the tube might have been like if those planned lines/stations had been built. One thing - the planned Bakerloo line Camberwell extension is not on it.

Perhaps Roding Valley's includes staff-fainting if a passenger turns up? Staff? I'm sure they have some there - if you can find their hiding places!
