I've never played this game. Unfortunately it looks like I'll have to wait for the Mac version, unless I can use my Windows partition or use one of dad's old Windows PCs (I kept all his computers - he had 2 laptops and a Surface tablet!) to play it. Looks good though

I can't believe it's been 10 years! They still feel 'new'. Best thing about them is the space and the air conditioning. Much needed in the heat! I'm almost sure I was on the D78s as a kid as my parents used the District line a lot, but I don't really remember as I don't think I took much notice of which tube stock I was on or the stations or anything. Kinda wish I had now. I'm looking forward to the new Piccadilly line trains though and hope to be in London for the last day of the '73 stock.

I read that on Twitter and posted the article. Maybe he should consider the Tube Challenge. Wish I could do it but I don't see myself visiting London this summer

Some of my favourite ones:
London's Underground: The Story of the Tube Frank Pick's London The Aldwych Branch Working the London Underground: 1863 to 2013 London Underground: Architecture, Art and Design The Jubilee Line Extension (mainly a photobook but I really like it) And for some lighter entertainment - London Underground's Strangest Tales I also have some LU trivia books
These ones are mainly about LU history and station architecture and design, but definitely worth a read

I remember the black and white maps on the back of the London A to Z atlases. My parents had one of those A to Z maps in the 1980s. Sadly it got thrown out I remember the tube map on the back though. Each line had a pattern instead of a colour. As it was from the mid 80s it had Aldwych, no Heathrow loop, Central line Epping-Ongar and the original Jubilee line on it. It also had no H&C and the W&C was marked as part of BR. I also had a copy of the Usborne Book of London when I was a kid and it had a small piece about LU in it. It had patterns for the different lines as well as colours. I think I still have the book somewhere, I'll have to find it.

I'm actually wondering now how many LU stations might have cats. I think every station should have one Agreed, HC. But not in the deep tube; too much danger. Mind you, the rats at Mile End had no difficulty with the live rail on the north side of the Central EB. Still haven't had an explanation of that. Buckhurst Hill in comparison is/was a country station with plenty of flower beds in which Henry could dig a hole! True. They should have them in the sub surface and outer stations though

The right ones, because otherwise.... "It's the wrong trousers Gromit - and they've gone wrong!" One of my all time favourite lines in a film. I love that film first saw it when I was about 5 and I even had the video back in the day! I won't be able to go to the Christmas event this year as I'm already going away for Christmas and I'd be skint otherwise.

The worrying aspect of your comment, Jimbo, is that it could well be true. What's even more worrying is that it could be applied to other fleets.......60 year old 1992 tube stock anyone? However, whilst the Bakerloo fleet had been likened to Trigger's broom, this analogy only works for so long. The various mechanical modifications recently completed were complicated and expensive. (BTW, They were needed to keep the trains in service even if they had been replaced in the same timescale as the Piccadilly fleet). If the wiring deteriorates - and no one knows when that might happen - it is likely to be even more complicated and expensive, not least because it was never intended to be done and you've got to clean out all the old cable debris from inaccessible cable ducts before threading the new cables. Perhaps this might be the replacement trigger? I would make the point that if the fleet is to be kept 'for a long time', maintenance will have to change from what LU currently does into something more like has to be done in the heritage movement. It would be wrong to call it conservation, but for old vehicles, components and systems, that have never caused trouble, will start delivering end of life problems, and will need the maintainers to be fleet of foot in finding replacements for unobtainable OEM items. More generally, making a business case for replacing trains like for like hasn't been done on the underground since the 1970s. The last like for like replacements were D stock (for CO/CP and R stock) and 1983 tube stock (allowing the last of the 1938 tube stock to be withdrawn). All subsequent replacements have been justified by the business benefit of a faster and more frequent serviceenebled by more powerful trains and delivered through modern signalling/ATO. I'm kinda worried that there's a possibility of the Bakerloo line trains lasting til 2035. I can imagine they won't really be safe to run by then. Are there any mainline rolling stocks from the 70s still running or have they all been replaced? Travelling on the Bakerloo line is like travelling in a museum it's so old. The 1972ts has had a good long life but it's time for them to rest now. It's like driving an old 1970s car as your main car (I know some people drive them as a hobby or classic car events but they're not suitable for day to day driving). I really hope the 1992ts doesn't last that long either, it means many more summers of melting on the Central line 🔥🔥🔥

I wouldn't be so sure on this being a set-up. This still happens today, yesterday, tomorrow: every single day. I have many female-identifying friends who are train operators, and they all have numerous experiences of people waiting for the next train purely because they're a women. Many even choose to walk up to cab doors and attempt to explain as such, although one particularly memorable story relayed to me was the time when the following five trains were all also being driven by lady drivers. If only they knew of female control staff... I wonder what they do when they're strapped into their aircraft seat and the announcement comes: "Hello, I'm Felicity Kemp and I'll be your captain for today. Our first officer is Alison Cooper, and she'll be flying this segment, our cabin crew ..." <Snigger> I was flying home from London a while back and the plane was being flown by a female pilot. As far as I remember nobody got off the plane when they heard the announcement a couple of people might have even cheered, but I can't remember as I fell asleep soon after.

Cool. I bet it'll be all over Twitter. Is that the section which opened first? Yes, it was a low-key "soft" opening. I remember using it the week after, and it wasn't exactly busy at that time. I always thought the part going from Westminster was first to open. I would have been 9 years old when it opened, but I don't remember hearing about it anywhere or going on it. It's much busier now though

I didn't see that reply or the tweet using a Jubilee line platform picture. When is the anniversary of the JLE opening (well the first section of it)? What day is it on? 14th May from Stratford to North Greenwich. Cool. I bet it'll be all over Twitter. Is that the section which opened first?

I saw and retweetwd those and I noticed the photo 🤣 some of my followers commented on it. I think someone needs to go to Specsavers 🤓 I replied to the post of the wrong platform Tweet pointing out the error. They used a Jubilee line platform picture the next day. The 20th anniversary of the first section of the Jubilee line extension opening is coming soon. I didn't see that reply or the tweet using a Jubilee line platform picture. Bit odd that they didn't at least make a press release for the anniversary, seeing as it's in the top 11(12) most used Tube lines.. I did find this on TfL's website. Maybe they'll make one for the 50 th anniversary, see you in 2029! They did post some items on Twitter including the launch poster. Another was a picture of Prince Charles who opened the line. Unfortunately it was on the Northern line platform at Charing Cross. I saw and retweetwd those and I noticed the photo 🤣 some of my followers commented on it. I think someone needs to go to Specsavers 🤓

I went last September and loved it, but I guess I'm easily pleased 😉 I loved looking inside the old buses and tube trains and seeing all the LU history displays. It was actually my optician who recommended I go there (he had been before). Plus it was the only way I could get my tube phobic mother to accept my interest in all things LU. She won't go on the tube and she complains about it and it drives me up the wall! I'd go Barking mad if I didn't have this site and Twitter. She has kind of accepted it now and I haven't been made to get rid of all my tube stuff. I bought the lightbox in Heathrow last time I was there and that went down well.
I'm seriously addicted to the gift shop though and spent over £200 when I went. Nearly had to pay excess baggage on my suitcase coming home 😳 I just ordered two more things from there tonight (a D stock t-shirt and a zip up hoodie with the LU logo on it) I really want to go to the Acton depot at some point but haven't found an excuse yet.

How did he manage to turn the luggage racks into shelving units? I thought I was too far away from London to have an interest in LU (I'm in Ireland), but it seems there are LU geeks all over the world! I've been asked a few times about why I have an interest when I'm not near London. I've never been to the UAE though, I'd be scared to go there. Is your friend originally from London or did he spend time there? It could be that they're a limited edition product and once they're gone that's it. Might have to try and make a trip there. He is very much still a Londoner but like myself, spent most of his pre uni days following his parents round the world such was the nature of their jobs. Long story short I think he just got a four tier bookshelf from Ikea (which was a couple of inches wider than the racks) and removed the inner three planks where the the luggage racks complete with their brackets could then bolted/screwed into place. Back to the bags, I don't think you need worry about them running out since the year specific memorabilia has in the past lasted for most of that said year. There is still some LU 150 merchandise still available at the time of typing not to mention an abundance of D stock memorabilia in existence. I have a lecturer in college who has been moved around by her parents since childhood. She's fed up with it now and she wants to settle in one place. I presume he's working in the UAE now? I'd be scared to go there because I don't think they treat women very well (as far as I know anyway). That actually sounds pretty clever and I bet the bookcase looks great! I think I saw some LU150 stuff when I was there and I bought a D stock pen (which is now broken)

Does your friend have an interest in LU? Wonder why it's only sold in the Covent Garden shop? I'll have to try and find time to go over with an empty suitcase and full bank account 🤑 Yes he does indeed, to the extent to which he took three A stock luggage racks and turned them into a shelving unit all the way out in the United Arab Emirates of all places. I’d assume they don’t plan to stock the bags for that long or in enough bulk quantities to warrant stock listing online as there are quite a number of items that fall into that category. Looking back at some similar sized bags that I’ve bought from London Transport Museum recently I’d guess around £7.99. How did he manage to turn the luggage racks into shelving units? I thought I was too far away from London to have an interest in LU (I'm in Ireland), but it seems there are LU geeks all over the world! Really? I'll have a look at their website and see. Don't know when I'm going to the LTM again so I might be able to order one if they're not too expensive. As it would happen, I was looking on the website on behalf of a friend who was abroad and wanted one. Unfortunately, it’s one of those items that is only sold on site at Covent Garden, if you do get the chance to pop down, it’s on the second floor near the first books island. Does your friend have an interest in LU? Wonder why it's only sold in the Covent Garden shop? I'll have to try and find time to go over with an empty suitcase and full bank account 🤑

I saw it on Twitter earlier. If I was in London I'd probably go along and get one. Hopefully the LTM will sell them at sone point. They already do, I can’t remember what the prices were but one big difference is that the ones at Covent Garden are green with 150 in white as opposed to the cream and green ones being handed out at stations. Really? I'll have a look at their website and see. Don't know when I'm going to the LTM again so I might be able to order one if they're not too expensive.

We might as well have a 50 year old joke to go with the opening anniversary. An Italian girl goes home to mama and says "mama, i'm a gonna change ma name to Veectoreeaah Choobe Leenie". Mama asks "why my daughter you wanna change your name like that?" So the daughter pulls out a copy of the Evening News with the headline "Victoria Tube Line laid by 20,000 men in 3 years" I haven't heard that one before brilliant! I got it fairly quick.

It's a very interesting watch (I've watched it lots of times) and it's amazing how it looked familiar, yet so different. I was born in 1990 so don't really remember those days of the tube, even though I was on it as a kid. I have to say though I do prefer the 1995 stock to the 1959 though, but that's just me. BTW I wish tube stations now had a station cat, at least he would keep the mice at bay

I wouldn't be able to go as I'm up to my eyeballs here with college, work and driving lessons as well as studying for law exams and rewriting my PhD proposal, plus I might be needed to scribe for someone in exams. Hopefully some day I'll make it to London for it.
