You may (or may not) be interested to learn that some dot matrices have been erected on both platforms at Rayners Lane but are as of yet, not operational.
I'm a bit surprised since I thought this would not happen until the SSR was resignalled.

Wow, great news, and at long last. Be interesting to see how long it is before they are commissioned (I am thinking of the time it took to get Eastcote - Hillingdon operational, some longer than others).

The display on the westbound platform at South Harrow has not been displaying anything for the past 2 or 3 days. Wonder if its related.

Rayners Lane has finally had DMIs installed, although they aren't active yet. Are there any other platforms left on the Met without DMIs?

There are still technically some stations or platforms that don't have DMI's but have Light Boxes as NTI's: Barons Court (No destrciber for EB District), Stepney Green (EB), Upton Park and Upney (No describer for EB District)
This will need clarifying but I can't recall seeing any form NTI's on the platforms at Hornchurch, Upminster or the District platforms at Ealing Broadway.

I think the SSR Upgrade makes it possible. Maybe measuring the next train by seconds (like in Barcelona) could be possible with the new shiny signalling system thing.

But imagine the pedants... "The board said that it would arrive in 10 seconds, but it arrived in 13 seconds instead! *rage* *rage*

South Harrow is bad for that. If it says 1 minute, it means 5 minutes normally. Hopefully this improves with the new signalling being installed on the met

Folowing on from @luacton , South Harrow's position at the 'edge of the realm' for Earls Court aswell as being a potential turn-back point often means that the WB platform erroneously displays EB departures even though there is no service disruption or terminating trains. The rouge DMI on the not so WB Platform at S.Harrow

The westbound DMI at Rayners Lane is operational. Have not checked eastbound yet.

EB came into use this week, can only display Metropolitan or Piccadilly line for the EB, no destination, calling points, or service type (Semi-fast-All stations-Not In Service).

They're putting up amber panels??? How 1990s. (They look like the existing BART display panels.)

The smaller displays are quite hard to read the full size version is far easier

The smaller displays are quite hard to read the full size version is far easier I've often thought this too. I don't have amazing eyesight and the small ones are much more of a pain. I'd hate to think how a partially sighted person would cope. No use being brighter if the letters are too small to read!

I cannot read these new dot matrix boards from too far away. Not that it matters. As we've discussed before, many display incorrect information. The EB board at Lane on Saturday showed a Picadilly Line train one minute away which then mysteriously vanished. Not sure what happened there. I suspect these issues will be corrected when the new signalling is in place. As a sidenote, I believe the EB came into operation Last week Tuesday 08/05 perhaps?

The WB suffers from the same ghost train syndrome except for most of the time it doesn't matter as the majority of trains go to Uxbridge anyway. I can't remember how the train describer at Rayners Lane cabin works when taking a Picc out of the sidings but I'd assume once the preceding train had cleared the EB platform, the Picc is entered and hence appears top of the board. This happened yesterday when the DMI showed the Met at the top with a Picc underneath with no time aswell as it came out of the sidings just after.

There is no input from the signallers that has an effect on the describer boards, maybe the list we use for the Piccadilly's CTFS might influence the list and expected set numbers but there is no direct input per se

There is no input from the signallers that has an effect on the describer boards, maybe the list we use for the Piccadilly's CTFS might influence the list and expected set numbers but there is no direct input per se If they are the same as they are elsewhere they use a clever interface between the timetable and Connect Radio data, which is why they're not always accurate. They can 'flip-flop' in the way that some of the legacy programme machines can but they can't account for additional trains, short trips or extensions - we await CBTC for that.

The LUL Signage Manual contains a useful chart that specifies letter hight against viewing distance. Whoever specified and accepted the new screens does not appear to understand the importance of this. The old screens had a lot of frame and were somewhat unsightly but they could be read (as long as you weren't colour blind in the range that makes amber dots illegible) from a distance.

Has anybody actually complained to TFL? It would be interesting to hear their response.

I wonder if the reason may be that they are some kind of attempt to make people spread along the platform, as the larger indicators can be read from anywhere and therefore people can just remain where they arrive on the platform.
