Has tye refurbishment resumed or is the work still on hold? The construction work on new workshop building in Acton Works has now restarted. Three 2-car units were returned to traffic during the stoppage.

So how much longer do you reckon the refurb programme will take, 4 moths, or longer because of knock-on effects?

So how much longer do you reckon the refurb programme will take, 4 moths, or longer because of knock-on effects? It'll take a least another butterfly to complete the work and maybe even a caterpillar longer
In truth it's probably way too early to estimate as most projects, across all industries, tend not to meet their deadlines.... sadly though re LU, the delays and the causes then spill over into the political arena

Quite possibly LU / TfL cannot afford these works. Yes it will mean being in breach of a legal requirement to make the trains accessible and carry out the other works, but short of the Treasury providing the finance I would not be surprised if the works were delayed until the financial situation improves.
(maybe I should have said if / when it improves)

If they don't start it soon, it won't be worth the money as replacement is due in around 10 years or so.

I do not read Private Eye, is it possible to offer a brief synopsis of what was said? If there’s a second outbreak of Covid, HM Treasury will force DfT to mothball railways rather than keep them open on very low utilisation. It then goes on to comment that Grant Shapps has already told railway managers that they’ve had bail out grants rather than loans (as the airlines did). Without going into politics, it suggests a distinct lack of willingness to find money for railways.

Assuming traffic levels return to pre - Covid only about 2024 and the 92TS will be life-expired by about 2030, won't TFL just "lose" the upgrade, and patch up the 92s for a few more years? The Govt can of course change the accessibility regs by changing the law.

There needs to be flexibility where money is tight. Sometimes the utilitarian's 'greatest good for the greatest number' needs to be included in the calculations.

Without going into politics, it suggests a distinct lack of willingness to find money for railways. I saw a newspaper headline recently which talked of line closures if the trains remain empty. I did not get to read the full article. I know that I expressed this concern many months ago, but it might not have been here. Anyway, the government did its its level best to scare people off public transport so I am not surprised that people are still staying away. As what I am saying is not really about 92TS refurb/replacement I am going to say more on this on topic in the "Coronavirus Implications For London's Transport" thread districtdavesforum.co.uk/post/494554/thread

They're definitely coming back on the District Line in my experience. I'll take a look at how busy the Central is when I am next at Mile End.

I've seen a tweet which talks about a major international bank ordering its staff to return to its offices on 21st September - even if it happens as a staged event this has the potential to see peak hour passenger numbers rising, especially if other banks will follow suit. I've placed the tweet in a thread more relevant to that topic, this being Coronavirus Implications For London's Transportdistrictdavesforum.co.uk/post/495312

The first unit 91111-92111 at Derby has now successfully been fitted with AC motors and is back on its bogies. Second unit 92446-93446(d) is the next to receive the same.

Splendid hope it does not screw up like the 317 retraction that happened a few years ago I think I know which incident you are on about, and if so, it should not be an issue as the motors themselves are an exact replacement. Same motor shape, mountings, bolt patterns etc

Some encouraging news on this long drawn out project; the first AC traction equipment fitted unit at Bombardier Derby, 92111 has passed its static testing and has moved onto dynamic testing on the test track at Derby works. it's hoped to deliver this unit back to London in early-January, to continue dynamic testing with LU.

From what I was shown earlier in the project, the complete traction package and auxiliary converter are replaced by the new equipment occupying the effectively same space and approximately the same weight.

Assuming the first unit tests out OK, I can see this upgrade proceeding for the whole fleet, simply on the Triggers Broom principle, that there is no money to buy new units, so you keep replacing worn out stuff so the maintenance teams will probably be messing with 92s well beyond 2030.

probably 2009 stock units Yes, hints of 2009/S Stocks Might sound sad, but I will miss the current (soon to be old) motors but the rolling stock is in need of the improvement.

Will the ac train units be compatible with the dc train units? (ie: able to work together in the same train)
If not, could a situation be reached whereby there are times when there is a shortage of serviceable train units which causes a cancellation (or two) from the timetable?
Continuing on with the scenario (above), maybe some temporary short-length shuttle services would be operated? eh: Loughton - Epping, (Leytonstone -) Woodford - Hainault, (White City -) North Action - Ealing Broadway... ?

Don't see why there should be a problem. On the Big Railway retractioned 455s work fine with original-condition 456s
