Have there been any developments in this area lately? I see the Central Line general manager is quoted as saying "New stock will come in in 2030". This is an improvement on 2033, if accurate, but surely the 92s can't be kept running that long? They were never a brilliant design, even when new....The interiors are getting very worn. with the "uplift" of a few years back resulting only in saggy moquette; and general reliability issues don't seem to be improving despite the re-motoring scheme. This summer, the heat issue has been well-nigh unbearable. Obviously a/c is difficult given the tunnel clearances, but ordinary ventilation seems to have got worse, too.

Projects are actually running to re-traction with AC drives, replace the Auxiliary power converter, renew the data system, fit a new Customer Information System including visual displays and several other improvements. Nothing I'm aware of on vent, but maybe something to get it all working again? New train length shed being built at Acton to do all this fitout. 92TS already had new bogies, bodyend resealing, windows refitted etc. etc.

to what extent will they be refurbished on the inside? Will it be like the refurb the 95/96 stock got?
When can we expect the first retractioned train?

When can we expect the first retractioned train? The new workshop in Acton Works is only just being built.

However, I will be utterly astonished if a company like Vivarail wanted these for selling on...

The 92TS works are not due to work until early 2020 last I heard. There is a new workshop being built, but the plan is for the first train or two to be completed within the current workshops. I have seen the mock up of the new motor within the bogie frame, looks good.

My point was that mock-ups generally look [insert choice of superlative], but the real things are often different and not quite as good.
That said, on the 777 mock-up the driver's door opened Delorean-style if you leant on it, which I gather is not the intention for the real thing.

In relation to the refurbishment. I'm hoping that some proper overhaul work is carried out on all units of 92 Stock. A HOPL 'Heavy Overhaul Programme Lift' was the term that circulated when the overhaul work was initially proposed. A thread on this was made as well.

I presume there is a database which stores details of all the maintenance/ upgrades to each car. Before the rise of computers however, was such information stored on books? Did this require hard copies to be made?

All this money and work being spent and they will still be the most uncomfortable, most un-reliable and most disappointing train set ever. And now that TFL's finances are pitiful and in crisis it will be a miracle that anything new and decent will run on those rails in the next 2 decades. Thank goodness I don't live near or need to use this fast deteriorating line.

Thank goodness I don't live near or need to use this fast deteriorating line. Given that TfL are spending money on the 92ts I think describing Central Line as "fast deteriorating" is perhaps unfair. My feeling is that it's being kept at a level - other lines are improving around it which might mean that passenger expectations are increased, but that doesn't justify the title you have given it.

Perhaps I am being a bit hyperbolic - the line is being somewhat overworked - particularly off-peak - which can't help the situation. I think I took an instant dislike to the 92TS as soon as they arrived comparing them to what had gone before and especially how uncomfortable they are with the ridiculously low seats and poor ventilation. When I used to work at East Acton I purposefully avoided the Central as much as possible - always taking the H&C to Wood Lane so I only needed to use the Central for one stop. I dislike the central so much that if I heard the H&C had problems I would take the Overground to Willesden Jct and then a bus to East Acton! I'm sure the new trains - if they ever arrive - will be amazing and I can re-appraise my feelings but for now - I avoid.

The mock up was an exact 3D model of the new motor design and it is exactly what is to be used. I completely agree with your statement though (new tube for london deisgn, doubt it will look that cool when actually built).

Did this require hard copies to be made? Indeed all maintainence was kept on log books, kept up to date by the Depot Office Assistant.Every time a unit went through heavy overhaul a new log book was started. It also recorded the stock numbers of all equipment fitted to the unit ie:wheelsets, motors, compressors,MAs etc. This was done on all lines ,not just the Central.

I'm sure I've seen reports of a 1992 stock DM that has been refurbed recently, anyone know the number or unit that it's part of?

I saw a 1992 stock train at Stratford P6 from my TfL Rail train which had a carriage that had all it's door open buttons removed however as the train departed it seemed it was only done on this carriage, is this part of the refurbishment?

There is a 'project' train, where all sorts of work has been done to see what difference it does to reliability. The worse unit/train (can't remember exact details) was chosen for the job, and it is now one of the best.
There is also the CLIP prototype train (would not have been seen in service) which has a new train monitoring system.

I spotted a unit with a new type of inter-car barriers between two cars on an 8 car unit. They were made of rubber. I haven't seen any more units with this mod since a week ago.

I had thought all ‘92s were fitted with the rubber sharks-teeth between the cars after the Holland Park incident in August 2013 ?
